Your People | Rachel Grim
I honestly don’t even think you need a reason beyond that sickening fur she’s wearing to read on. But, on the off chance that’s not reason enough, just know that Rachel K. Grim is a name to remember. The fashion guru brings equal parts depth and aesthetics to her iconic blog A Grim Sense of Style. Can you feel that? The industry is shaking.
Okay Rachel, give us the tea.
I am Rachel K. Grim, the nano-influencer and content creator behind my "dream big" blog A Grim Sense of Style. I am a small-town Pennsylvania girl turned New York City dweller with an eye for fashion and a heartbeat for empowerment. Recognizing from a young age that a woman feels her best when she looks her best and through this mentality is empowered to be her best led me to pursue a career in the fashion and beauty industry. However, I quickly found working for large corporate brands did not provide me the opportunity to impact women on a deeper level. So I created A Grim Sense of Style where I share vulnerable, real-life experiences alongside the latest style trends, empowering both the small-town and city woman to look her best while working hard in pursuit of her biggest dreams.
That’s an incredible mission. Your blog is already a vibe, but the mission behind it is next level. What motivates you to create that type of content?
My greatest aspiration in this journey is to show women they are capable of achieving anything they are brave enough to dream (and can look great while doing so!). Even if I influence one woman to go after whatever it is, I will have achieved my ultimate goal.
Love that. What would you say is your specialty?
From runway to retail and editorial outfitting experience, I am a style expert always one step ahead of the latest trend. I have the confidence to wear what I want whenever and wherever I want; I hope to inspire other women to do the same.
The fashion industry can be both inspiring and problematic af. What advice would you give someone looking to be impactful in that space?
On paper, I am disadvantaged in this industry. But I know my purpose and believe wholeheartedly in my mission to make a positive impact. I refuse to stop until I achieve my ultimate goal.
My advice- take every disadvantage and turn it into an advantage. Never accept "no" as an answer.
Fashion is a women dominated field, but it can be very competitive. How do you deal with that?
With a mission to influence women, I (obviously) work primarily with women. Though we as women face many obstacles, I believe fellow females are sometimes our worst enemy. It is SO important as a female to support and empower the women around you. Community > Competition, always.
Okay one last question. Who are you stanning right now and why?
I am absolutely obsessed with Caroline Vazzana, the influencer and New York Times bestselling author behind Making It In Manhattan. Her wardrobe is literal #goals, but more importantly, she is a badass girl boss ALWAYS supporting the growth of other women in the fashion industry. From meeting her at NYFW and guest posting a few articles on her blog, I can say with confidence she is the real deal!
